DiSSCo delegation to participate in Executive Masters class “Management of Research Infrastructures”

Back to school is the motto for a certain group of people linked to DiSSCo. Because the DiSSCo coordination office is very keen to invest in the natural scientific collections community and further develop skills surrounding the management and leadership of RIs, it reserved three places in the Executive Masters class “Management of Research Infrastructures” at the University of Milano.

The Masters class has a requirement of 60 ECTS and is organised in 3-day modules among which 7 on-campus and 5 full online and will take 18 months to complete. Participants completing the full programme will also have to work on field projects (20 ECTS) – individual or team projects that draw on specific needs of RIs – under the supervision of faculty members. Some examples of these are: writing a business plan for a new RI, creating a sustainability model, defining a new project or service, developing a new communication strategy, developing a data management plan or a disaster mitigation plan. A detailed overview of the prorgramme content can be found here.

Two of the three places for DiSSCo are being occupied by Dimitris Koureas and Ana Casino as integral parts of the DiSSCo coordination office. The third position has been split among the team, combining representatives of the coordination office and others from the DiSSCo community. In total, nine people from four countries (FI, IT, NL, ES) have been selected to represent DiSSCo as a team during the modules. For this effort, DiSSCo will receive a certificate of excellence for investment in leadership capacities around RIs.
