On May 12, the Natural History Museum of Crete hosted a national engagement event to bring together DiSSCo, the Greek DiSSCo National task Force (NTF) and national representatives from science, business and politics. Dimitris Koureas of the DiSSCo coordination team represented DiSSCo and introduced the roadmap towards the European natural science collections becoming a distributed Research Infrastructure to the audience.
The aims of the event included:
– Awareness of stakeholders to the scientific importance of the rich biodiversity research collections maintained by the museums and botanic gardens in Greece.
– Discussion of the importance of recognising biodiversity collections as Research Infrastructure of European and national strategic value.
– Discussion of further steps needed for better integration of the national biodiversity collections in the European Research Area.
